ESSENTIAL  OILS SAFETY ADVICE

ESSENTIAL OIL IS A POWERFUL CONCENTRATED SUBSTANCE DISTILLED OR EXTRACTED FROM PLANTS AND SHOULD ALWAYS BE TREATED WITH GREAT CARE.

Always keep out of reach of children and pets. Do not apply undiluted oils directly onto the skin (always dilute with carrier oil before use). A Patch test is always recommended to see if your skin is sensitive to them. Avoid any contact with eyes or mouth – Essential Oils should never be taken orally as they are harmful if swallowed. If oils are splashed on any sensitive area of the skin or eyes, rinse off immediately with water and seek medical attention if required.
Avoid using Essential Oils in all stages of pregnancy.
Always consult a qualified Aromatherapist before using essential oils with babies and children.
Oils are flammable and should be kept away from naked flames or heat sources.

USE IN AN OIL BURNER

It is important to note that pure essential oils are normally used to achieve a pleasant environmental aroma by evaporation in an aromatic burner. An aromatic burner is usually a ceramic or metal container which holds a small water bath, which is heated gently by a night light candle. A few drops of oil are placed on the surface of the water to evaporate slowly to release their natural perfume. Dilutions are not suitable for this purpose.

MASSAGE

Essential Oils are also used by Aromatherapists in a diluted form in carrier oil such as grapeseed oil. The usual dilution of Essential oils is about 1 to 2 per cent, (5 drops of essential oil to 10ml of carrier oil), when they may be used as a massage oil or compress for their clients. Do not apply to open cuts or broken skin.
